Strategic Global Partnership to Enhance Medical Tourism in the Philippines

Philippine DOT and Agora Group Forge Partnership to Boost Medical and Wellness Tourism

The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) has teamed up with Agora Group, a renowned global player in the medical and wellness industry based in Dubai. This strategic collaboration aims to position the Philippines as an emerging destination for medical and wellness tourism in Asia and beyond.

As part of their partnership, both entities will join forces to organize the inaugural International Health and Wellness Tourism Congress (IHWTC) 2023. This exclusive two-day event, taking place in Dusseldorf, Germany from June 8 to 9, will gather key stakeholders from the medical and wellness sectors in a closed-door setting.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco expressed her confidence that this partnership will strengthen the Philippines’ standing as a premier hub for health and wellness tourism in Asia and globally. She emphasized the exceptional qualities of the country’s medical healthcare workers, particularly the Filipino diaspora.

“We are providing the Philippines with a valuable opportunity to become a tourism powerhouse in Asia. We recognize the importance of medical tourism and wellness tourism in achieving this goal, given our skilled workforce, advanced facilities, and government policies tailored to support the growth of medical tourism,” Secretary Frasco stated.

Acknowledging the competition posed by countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which boast exceptional healthcare facilities, Frasco highlighted the strategic advantage of the Philippines in terms of its culture of care and compassion exhibited by Filipino healthcare professionals. This quality is already well-known and appreciated by individuals from the Middle East.

Additionally, 23 healthcare facilities in the country have received international accreditation and recognition from the International Society for Quality in Health Care. Furthermore, the Philippines is home to 63 private hospitals located in close proximity to four international airports.

The DOT aims to train 100,000 tourism front-liners this year through its Filipino Brand of Service Excellence program. Combined with the upcoming IHWTC 2023, these initiatives will unlock vast opportunities to showcase the country’s exceptional health and wellness offerings and attract visitors from the highly desirable Middle East tourist market.
