Medical Tourism Watch is an independent trade publication covering the business of global medical travel. We report on country markets, patient flows, pricing signals, regulation, accreditation and patient safety for the people who run, fund, regulate and study this industry.
What we cover
Medical travel is a large, fast-moving and unusually opaque industry. Prices are quoted without methodology, outcomes are advertised without evidence, and much of what is published about destinations is marketing wearing the clothes of journalism. We exist to report it as a business: with named sources, dated figures, stated methodology and disclosed interests.
Our coverage is organised around seven pillars:
- Industry news — the deals, appointments, openings, closures and policy changes that move the market.
- Market intelligence — patient volumes, revenue, pricing and competitive position.
- Destination intelligence — country-level analysis of capacity, regulation, visas, government strategy and risk.
- Treatments and sectors — dental, cosmetic, fertility, orthopaedics, longevity, sleep tourism and others.
- Patient safety and ethics — complications, oversight failures, misleading claims and the gaps between marketing and outcome.
- Business and strategy — facilitators, insurers, employers, airlines, hospitality and the economics that connect them.
- People and organisations — who is building this industry, and how.
We publish in six formats: news, analysis, data, guides, interviews and clearly labelled opinion.
Who we are for
Our primary readers are hospital executives and international patient departments, facilitators and agencies, tourism boards and destination organisations, insurers, investors, consultants, researchers, healthcare marketers, accreditation bodies, and government and policy professionals.
Informed patients and their families are a secondary audience. Roughly seventy per cent of what we publish is industry intelligence and thirty per cent is patient education and safety. We write the patient-facing material to inform a conversation with a qualified clinician, never to replace it.
What we are not
Medical Tourism Watch is a newsroom. It is not a clinic, a hospital, an agency, a facilitator, a booking platform, a referral service, a clinic directory, a regulator or an accreditation body.
We do not give medical advice, arrange treatment, recommend individual providers to patients, or pass reader enquiries to providers as sales leads.
How we are funded
Medical Tourism Watch is funded by advertising, clearly labelled sponsorship, and paid research and reports. Commercial relationships never buy news coverage, placement, rankings or a favourable assessment. Our transparency page sets out ownership, revenue and conflicts in full.
The publisher also holds interests in other businesses operating in and around medical travel. We disclose these openly on our ecosystem page, and the rules that govern coverage of them are published in our related businesses and editorial independence policy.
Who writes it
Medical Tourism Watch is currently written and edited by its editorial team. Every article carries a real byline. We do not use invented desks, teams, correspondents or advisory boards, and we will not create them before the people behind them exist.
Standards and accountability
How we choose, source and verify stories is set out in our editorial policy, which links to every detailed standard we hold ourselves to — including fact-checking, corrections, AI use and sponsored content.
If we get something wrong, tell us. Our corrections process is public and our corrections log records every material change.
